There were a lot of big moves in the NBA off-season, and if it wasn’t for Kevin Durant turning the NBA landscape upside-down, Dwyane Wade’s move to his hometown team, the Chicago Bulls, may have been the biggest story of the summer.
Last night [Thursday, Oct 27], that move became reality, with Wade making his debut in Chicago. The Bulls faced off against the Boston Celtics, who also welcomed a new star player in the off-season, Al Horford. Boston are a popular pick this year to challenge, not stop, the Cavaliers in the East, but Dwyane, Jimmy Butler and Rajon Rondo will have something to say about that.
Wade had 22 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and made 4 huge threes, which, if you know Wade’s game, is impressive. Jimmy Butler contributed 24 points and 7 rebounds, and Rajon Rondo had 9 assists. On the other side, Al Horford was kept in check for the most part, scoring only 11 points and grabbing 7 rebounds. Jaylen Brown, the Celtic’s new rookie they took with the 3rd pick in the draft, only played 20 minutes and scored just 8 points.
After the game, Wade received praise from his old teammate, Chris Bosh, and his wife,Gabrielle Union, poked some fun at him as well on Twitter. After this performance, Wade will look to continue to silence the haters that think he’s too old to be effective. However, how this effects the chemistry of the team, which was a puzzle to begin with, will be important for Chicago this season. Is this Jimmy Butler’s team, or will he be expected to follow the hometown hero Wade?
Congrats to my brother @DwyaneWade for his debut tonight! I know this is a childhood dream that he’s living right now. How awesome is that?
